Are you passionate about a worthy cause, or have you identified a group of underprivileged people in need of help? If so you have probably thought about starting a not-for-profit organization to help solve some of our country’s social, economic and political problems. This fast-paced, entertaining program will teach you, step by step, how to build a successful not-for-profit organization in Connecticut, and identify resources that will help you help those in need.

Among the things you will learn in this program:

  • How to make sure your cause is really “charitable,” and the three keys to success in a not-for-profit organization
  • The two types of not-for-profit organizations, and the differences between them, and how to form a not-for-profit corporation or limited liability company (LLC)
  • How to find wealthy donors and gain their support and trust, and how to put together your nonprofit board of directors and management team
  • How to write applications for government grants, and how to market and promote your not-for-profit activities
  • How to apply for tax-exempt (section 501C3) status from the IRS and the State of Connecticut
  • How to find lawyers and accountants to help you with the paperwork, and Connecticut government agencies that support not-for-profit organizations, and how to deal with them
