Program Description

Description

This discussion group has been meeting regularly at the Library for a few years. The purpose of the group is to provide a safe space where issues of race can be discussed and where healing racism can begin. We hope that the discussions equip people to have similar conversations with friends and family outside the group and that it gives participants the courage to confront issues of race that may be going on in their own lives.

Each month there is a different facilitator. We discuss articles and/or short videos about race, our own reactions to current events and ways that we can heal racism in our communities. Some sessions may include workshop activities where we take a close look at our own experiences and how we can take an anti-racist stand in our day to day.

Members of the planning team:  Betty Blake, Angela McCord Keiser, Marion Livingston, Tanya Livingston, Leslie Mahtani, Meredith Odinak, Gail Ostrow, Brenda Puryear, Susan Stengel, Ellie Weinstein.
