The Love That Dares Speak Its Name: A History of LGB Literature

What makes fiction LGBTQ? The characters? The author’s identity? Join us for a stimulating conversation led by authors Christopher Bram (Gods and Monsters) and Sarah Van Arsdale (Blue: A Novel). Using Bram’s seminal work, Eminent Outlaws: The Gay Writers Who Changed America as a starting point, we will explore classic 20th Century lesbian, gay, and bisexual literature, as well as best writing from the past twenty years and what to expect next. There will be a rapid fire round at the end asking the presenters about favorite books and authors with takeaway lists for your next read.

Presenters: Christopher Bram is an American author. He is the author of nine novels and three works of non-fiction. His novel Father of Frankenstein was adapted into the film, Gods and Monsters starring Ian McKellen.
Sarah Van Arsdale is the author of three novels, one novella collection, and a book-length poem, A winner of the Peter Taylor Prize for the novel and a finalist in several international and national writing contests, she serves on the board of the Ferro-Grumley Award in LGBTQ Fiction.
