"Musical Theater's Impossible Dream: The Staggering Success of Man of La Mancha"

Loosely based on Cervantes’ 17th century novel "Don Quixote", Man of La Mancha presents the story of the titular knight errant as a play within a play. Premiering in 1965, the Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Having been revived in 1972, 1977, 1992, 2002, and 2019, it is one of the most enduring shows in the musical theater repertoire. 

Join Professor Gil Harel as he takes us inside the score of Man of La Mancha, breaking down memorable moments in the drama and music alike. In doing so, we will see how a show with iconic songs such as “The Impossible Dream” has charmed and inspired audiences for more than half a century.
