Description
Join the internationally acclaimed Lions Gate Trio for a dazzling program reflecting Dvorak's vision: Dvorak's Dumky Trio, Ives piano trio, and Roots II by David Baker.
Antonin Dvorak wrote some of the most beloved music of the Romantic era. Shaking off the heavy mantle of German Romanticism, he drew instead from the people around him, celebrating the folk music of his native Czechoslovakia. When he visited America for three years, Dvorak was struck by a similar musical vision for music in this country. Deeply inspired by African American music, he declared to the Herald Tribune: if composers here wanted to create a great and noble new classical music, they had all they needed in the African-American melodies around them. It is no surprise that these American inspirations echo in Dvorak’s own music
The internationally acclaimed Lions Gate Trio, the Library's trio-in-residence, features Darrett Adkins on cello, Katie Lansdale on violin and Florence Millet on piano. Peter Alexander is the musical director. A reception with light refreshments after the concert offers listeners a chance to meet the musicians.
Soundwaves Concerts are made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library.
