Que Seurat, Seurat - An Armchair Art Tour

Join us as we examine the work of Georges Seurat. 

Influenced by ancient and Renaissance art, Georges Seurat (1859-1891) used to create structured, monumental scenes in Paris until the summer, when he went to Normandy to paint. He once said, “Some say they see Poetry in my paintings; I see only science.” That may be because his pictures were also based on the scientific vision research of his time. From it, Seurat believed that painting in warm or cool colors, along with the direction of the lines in his paintings, could influence a viewer’s emotions and that the brain can optically mix small adjacent daubs of complementary, or contrasting, colors (sometimes called Pointillism), enabling it to perceive the result more vividly than by seeing those colors premixed together.

This is the 2nd program in Michael Norris' Postimpressionists series following the very popular Go Van Gogh presented in November 2022.  Each presentation is separate and there is no need to have seen previous presentations. 

Dr. Norris will join us virtually and the program will be broadcast at the Main Library for those who wish to join others as they view it "in person".  Whatever method you choose, you may change your mind up to the last minute.  All will be sent the link to the zoom and of course all are welcome in the Rotary Room.
