Program Description

Description

Fairfield Public Library and its community partners will be announcing the One Book One Town selection for 2024 in the Periodicals Room at Main Library on Thursday, January 11.  This event will be in person and on the Library’s social media platforms starting at 11:00 am.

This year’s OBOT selection will have companion books for children and middle graders. Book discussions and other related programs will also be offered. Copies of the chosen books will be available to borrow in print or digitally from Fairfield’s libraries or to purchase at the Fairfield University Store on Post Road.  The author will be visiting Fairfield on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00pm at the Fairfield University Quick Center for the Arts.

The One Book One Town initiative was inspired by a program created by librarian and author Nancy Pearl of the Seattle Public Library’s Washington Center for the Book, who wondered what would happen if everyone in the city read the same book simultaneously. Fairfield’s own community reading initiative— named One Book One Town—began in 2008, and each year a committee of members from Fairfield Public Library, the Pequot Library, Fairfield University, Fairfield University Bookstore, and the Fairfield Public Schools meets to select that year’s book.

One Book One Town is made possible by the generous support of The Friends of Fairfield Public Library.
