Program Description

Description

The Town of Fairfield and First Selectperson Christine Vitale will recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a proclamation recognizing the January 19 holiday as a National Day of Service and honoring Dr. King’s enduring legacy. Town residents are invited to attend the proclamation reading and join in celebrating Dr. King’s message of equality, justice and service to others.

The proclamation affirms the Town’s commitment to Dr. King’s belief that “Life’s most important and urgent question is what are you doing for others?” Martin Luther King Jr Day is not just a federal holiday but a commemoration which encourages Americans to work to actively bring about positive change in their communities.

The proclamation reading is open to the public. Residents of all ages are invited to attend and join us in honoring Dr. King with a commitment to community service. A list of ways to volunteer at local non-profits in need of your support will be shared.
