Program Description

Description

By the late 1800s, sewing machines and the popularity of pre-made patterns modeled after Parisian fashion made the latest styles increasingly accessible to middle class American women. In conjunction with the exhibition Dressed to Impress, Fairfield Museum’s Walt Matis will discuss how Bridgeport became a hub of sewing machine manufacturers, including Howe Machine Company, Wheeler & Wilson Manufacturing Company, and Singer Manufacturing Company.
