The Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery Committee invites the public to a reception for their current show, "Putting the Pieces Together," from 5:30-7:30pm in the Kershner Gallery at Main Library. The exhibit showcases the work of Larry Clifford, Eddie Hall and Lois Ramunni, who will speak about their art at 6:00pm. Light refreshments will be served. "Putting the Pieces Together" can be viewed until February 4, 2024, during regular Library hours.
Larry Clifford has a B.A. in art from Northwestern University and an M.A. in biomedical communications from the University of Texas. He has produced award-winning biomedical illustrations and is currently producing "biblioquilts" using traditional quilt designs and old books. His work has been shown throughout New England in public libraries and fine art galleries. Larry says, "It's important for me to repurpose distressed and long-forgotten materials...I view this as honoring the writers and memories they evoke. I repurpose every part of the books I find--covers, pages, spines--breathing new life into the materials with dyes, inks and acrylics."
Eddie Hall is a self-taught Berlin, Connecticut artist who creates works using recycled windows. He draws inspiration for his vibrant colors and geometric patterns from architectural and design themes. Eddie's award-winning art has been featured in various art facilities in Connecticut and Miami. Eddie says, "If you start looking, you would be surprised [by] how many windows are discarded on the side of the road...Using the medium of acrylic paint, I can transform the unique character of each window into something beautiful."
Lois Ramunni discovered her love of mosaics in Tuscany, at the studio of a classical mosaic artist, and has studied various mosaic styles. She has exhibited her work at many juried art shows and for many years at the Design Center of the Americas in Florida. She has had private and public commissions in both Florida and in Valencia, Spain. Lois states, "I love making mosaics! I like the feel of the marble and travertine, the colors of the tile and glass. With themes from life experiences, I want to captivate the viewer's imagination."
