Program Description

Description

Parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and loved ones: Have you ever read a picture book to a child and thought I could write one of these! With help from Victoria Sherrow at the Fairfield County Writers’ Studio, here is your chance to learn how. In this morning workshop, Victoria shares secrets of successful picture books. Using examples from beloved classics as well as books popular now, Victoria will explain what goes into successful picture books, how a writer turns an idea into a completed book, how a picture book gets published, and more. You will learn about a picture book’s structure, content, style, presentation, themes and art.

Whether you have written a picture book, have thought about writing one, or simply want to learn more, join us this informative session, including time for questions.

Victoria Sherrow is the award-winning author of more than 100 books for children and teens, which have been published by Harper, Macmillan, Scholastic, National Geographic, Golden Books, Henry Holt, and others. She has taught writing for more than 20 years, and one of her greatest joys is watching her students achieve their writing goals, including publication.
