Program Description

Description

Gender affirming care for the transgender and gender diverse population is under attack. Misinformation and false information are being spread by politicians and social media. This program will clarify what are the truths and the lies, supported by reputable medical sources, mental health sources, and evidence-based studies. This will be a safe space to ask questions and have respectful discussions regarding gender affirming care in our current environment.

This program will also include using gender inclusive Language, understanding the importance of chosen names and pronouns, finding available reputable resources, and the importance of becoming an ally to the transgender and gender diverse community. Jillian Celentano will explore topics and issues across the lifespan of the trans population based on her education, experience in the field and her lived personal experience.

Jillian is a transgender woman who began her transition in 2016 at the age of 55. She received her master's degree in social work at age 61.  She is a licensed psychotherapist, social worker, advocate, and has organized support groups for transgender/gender diverse children and young adults.  Jillian was a research assistant in the LGBTQ+ relationship studies lab at Albertus Magnus College, she also co-authored two published transgender studies at Yale University and is a published author of her book, "Transitioning Later in Life: A Personal Guide.” She is a Medical Educator/Standardized Patient at Yale University and Quinnipiac University, and is now working at a private practice as a licensed therapist and educator for the transgender/gender expansive community.
