Program Description

Description

Join us as we put on our citizen science hats and explore the amazing variety of plankton that are flourishing now that it is spring. We will use microscopes to identify plankton and then project our findings on a big screen while enjoying a fun and lively discussion about their role in local watersheds and healthy aquatic ecosystems everywhere!.   No experience necessary. Microscopes will be provided for all attendees.

Sara Jannott is a lifelong Fairfield resident and dedicated environmental educator. A graduate of the Yale Physician Associate Program, Sara spent over a decade working in surgery before returning to her foundational passion: environmental science. Her lifelong relationship with the Mill River Wetland Committee began as a student in the 1970s and evolved into a long-standing role initially as a parent volunteer beginning in 2008. Since 2019, Sara has directed MRWC's fifth-grade Ecosystem Labs. She specializes in bringing the microscopic world of plankton to life for over 700 students each spring in the Fairfield Public Schools and beyond.
