Description

The Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery Committee invites the public to an opening reception for their new show, Nature's Narratives.  The show features the work of Susan Fehlinger,  Anda Styler and Corinne Lapin Cohen, and will run from April 6 - June 1, 2024 in the Bruce Kershner Gallery at Main Library.

Hours for the open reception are 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, April 11.  Refreshments will be served, and the artists will speak at 6:00pm.

Susan Fehlinger is a self-taught oil painter.  She has exhibited widely in the area and teaches at the Rowayton Art Center. Susan moved from New York City to Cape Cod in 2003 and "began painting the coastal landscape and cottages around me.  I pushed the contrast of the Cape light and played with composition, scale, placement, and negative/positive spaces.  [Edward] Hopper is my hero."

Corinne Lapin-Cohen graduated Russell Sage College with a degree in art history, and did her graduate work in environmental preservation.  She lives and works in Katonah, New York, where she teaches drawing and painting at Stone House Studio.  She is the founder of the botanical art program at Lasdon Arboretum.  Corinne states, "I have painted traditional botanical watercolors for 25 years.  My intention is to merge art and science--scientific awareness with the hand and eye of the artist...Although my work has evolved into a more abstract genre, my focus remains humanity and the environment."

Anda Styler graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1983 and had her first show that same year.  Over the years, she has exhibited in fine art galleries all over the U.S.  While in New Mexico, she fell in love with the landscape and learned to paint it with passion.  Anda says, "Painting is my passion and I love creating composition, color harmony, color balance, and contrast...all around me in the ever-changing landscape. [My work involves] observing sky and wind patterns, and how the time of day and year--light and shadow--affect the landscape."
