Program Description

Description

Remembering the Unremembered; slavery and resistance in Fairfield. A Juneteenth perspective on Fairfield’s history.

First Selectman Bill Gerber will read a proclamation and Sustainable Fairfield Equity Committee member, Steve Bogan, will introduce this fascinating talk by Historian and Research Project Lead for the Fairfield Slavery Project, Alec Lurie, and Fairfield Museum and History Center Program & Volunteer Coordinator, Walt Matis, who will share the rich history of the enslaved and free black families in our community, offering a unique view of slavery in the North. The discussion will be followed by questions and answers with the audience.

This is a partnership between Sustainable Fairfield, Fairfield Museum and History Center, and the library.
