"Inside the Score of Jesus Christ Superstar"
Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar began its life as a concept album before coming to the Broadway stage in 1971. It presents the audience with what was then a radical depiction of the Passion narrative found in the gospels. Indeed, the edgy presentation is matched by an edgier score which melds traditional musical theater with a heavy dose of progressive rock. At the core of this telling is the relationship between Jesus and Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed his leader for an infamous sum of 30 silver pieces. Join Professor Gil Harel as he takes us inside the score of this remarkable musical and discusses its reception and legacy.
