Program Description

Description

Join us virtually or in person as Claire Evans presents a guide to understanding British English. One of the most shocking things Americans find when traveling in Britain is not just the wealth of regional accents, but the completely different terminology Brits use in our “common” language. Would you know what to do with an aubergine and a courgette? Is it possible to be scrummy while drinking scrumpy in the scrum? Would you ever want to name a UK linen store “Bed Bath and Beyond?” Chuckle while learning how to avoid Britspeak disaster on your next trip from Claire Evans, author of “High Tea and the Low Down: An American’s Unfiltered Life in the UK.”

Claire Evans will join us virtually and the program will be broadcast at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library for those who wish to join us, others may view online from home.  Whatever method you choose, you may change your mind up to the last minute.  All will be sent the link to the zoom and of course all are welcome in the Caroline Platt Walsh room.
