Description
The public is invited to a reception for the Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery's latest exhibit, "Places to Wander." The exhibit features the work of Rebeca Fuchs, Kate Henderson and Jason Pritchard, and will take place in the Gallery at Main Library from 5:30-7:30pm on Thursday, April 27. The artists will speak at 6:00pm.
Rebeca Fuchs was born in Spain and had a successful career as a furniture designer for almost two decades. She attended drawing and painting workshops in the U.S. and began to combine art and design projects; after motherhood, she devoted herself fully to painting. She has exhibited at several galleries in New York and Connecticut and has won the Juror's Choice award at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Rebeca says, "I paint to make you notice the beauty around you, beauty from nature and human interaction. My landscapes explore the raw, definitional forces of Earth...my human subjects are glimpses into the intimate moments when we search for our true selves."
Kate Henderson is a visual artist, educator, and Director of Kehler Liddell Gallery in New Haven. She also teaches at the Paier College of Art. Kate received a B.A. in art history and a BFA in painting from Indiana University, and an MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale. She has received many awards for her pastels and digital artwork. Kate says, "Painting, to me, is about creating a sacred place that uses forms of the natural world and describes the mysticism and the narratives of life...Frequent themes in my paintings include feminism, mythology, passages and memories. I often work by looking for a memory that can't be put into words, something trapped in our collective experience."
Jason Pritchard grew up in the UK and moved to New York in 2005, where he studied oil painting at the Art Students League. Recently, he was selected as a 2020 Emerging Artist by Cape Cod Art Magazine for his growing body of seascape paintings. He has exhibited his work in New York, Long Island, and his home region of Connecticut. Jason says, "Few things make me happier than taking a long walk on the beach and exploring both physically--and later in my mind's eye--the experience...I embrace the process of unpacking those memories and calibrating the colors, shifting light and changing weather elements back in my studio."
"Places to Wander" will be on display from April 22 through June 17, 2023, during regular Library hours.
