Program Description

Description

On Christmas Eve, 1946, Lt. Donald Storey, U.S. Navy, wrote to his wife, Margery, back home, "All my love, my thoughts, my dreams are with you tonight, dearest...Could I but hop on a star and glide to where you are..."  This is a fragment of a cache of love letters that author Lisa Franco stumbled upon at an antique shop.  What started as a curiosity became, with each subsequent letter she read, an obsession with finding the couple's family, learning their history, and ultimately, discovering what happened to Donald and Margery after the war.  My Dearest Darling: Letters of Love in Wartime is the result of that research and a heartwarming love story contained in five years of wartime correspondence.

Lisa Franco has been telling people's stories for more than four decades.  A former documentary producer at the ABC television affiliate WTNH 8 in New Haven, Lisa went on to become state communications director for a large non-profit organization.  She is now a freelance writer.

Join us for this discussion of the journey that became My Dearest Darling.  Light refreshments will be available.
