How Technology Shaped Us

Learn how inventions have shaped our human experience.  In this talk, scientist and writer, Ainissa Ramirez, Ph.D., will discuss her book The Alchemy of Us, which won the CT Book Award, was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize and has been named to many Best Science Book lists.  This book unfolds how simple inventions have changed society. Ramirez will illuminate how everyday objects around us had a hand in changing language, politics, and even our bodies.

Dr. Ramirez received her bachelor’s degree from Brown University and her doctorate from Stanford, both in materials science and engineering. She began her career as a scientist at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey and later joined the faculty at Yale. She now focuses all of her energy as a “science evangelist” with a mission of making science understandable to audiences of all ages.  She lives in New Haven.
